<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle can prevent the comfortableness of air conditioning from being impaired and also prevent power generating efficiency on the vehicle side from being impaired. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This air conditioner for a vehicle includes a high-tension battery 38 charged by a generator 37, a heat core 2 for heat-exchanging hot water and air blown into a cabin, an electric heater 22 for heating the hot water, a pump 31 for circulating the hot water to the heater core 2 and the electric heater 22, an air conditioning controller 40 for controlling the electric heater 22, and a vehicle side controller 50 for controlling the generator 37. The air conditioning controller 40 obtains the power WO of the electric heater 22 required for the hot water to reach the target water temperature TWO, and obtains a necessary voltage VO from the required power WO. When the required voltage VO is smaller than the power voltage of the high-tension battery 38, the air conditioning controller requests the vehicle side controller 50 of power generation with the necessary voltage VO.
