<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device allowing installation of a speed detection means on a governor without enlarging a hoistway. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tension pulley 13 is provided such that it becomes a lower side than a position where a car 8 is contacted with a shock absorber 30 provided on a pit 50, and a U shape bracket 20 having one piece mounted to a bracket 19 provided on a fixed shaft 18 of the tension pulley 13 and the other piece straddling an upper side of the tension pulley 13 and positioned at an opposite projection side of the fixed shaft 18 is provided. Whereas, on the tension pulley 13, a connection body 22 provided with a rotation shaft 24 projected to an opposite fixed shaft side is provided, and further, on the other piece of the U shape bracket 20, an encoder 16 for detecting rotation of the rotation shaft 24 and detecting a position or a speed of the car is provided.
