PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that abnormal noise is emitted when operating a locking device of an armrest. SOLUTION: A backrest bracket 6 of a backrest seat 3 of a seat 1 is rotatably provided with the armrest 4 pivotably at a desired height position via a locking mechanism L. The locking mechanism L is provided with a locking spring 30 having a coil part 31 locked by a frictional force winding around the periphery of a shaft 7, a fixing-side end 33 of the locking spring 30, a free end 35 of the locking spring 30, a change-over cam groove 38 retaining a locking position and an unlocking position when the free end 35 is attached thereto/detached therefrom, and an abutment member 45 attaching/detaching the free end 35 with respect to the changeover cam groove 38. A predetermined part in the side of the free end 35 of the locking spring 30 is provided with an abutment part 21 abutting on the peripheral face of the shaft 7 in the unlocked state.
