Apparatus for making filaments.-For the washing, bleaching, desulphurizing, soaping, and other treatment of a band containing a very large number of filaments and of high total titre, for example, of 60,000-80,000 deniers, the band a is passed with little or no tension through a succession of baths c between each of which are arranged pressure rollers b, the drives to the several rollers being so arranged that the speed of the rollers may be varied. The band is held beneath the surface of the liquid by glass rods d, or it may pass round a reel. Bv the application of only slight tension to the band during its passage through the baths, the filaments composing it are maintained in an opened-out condition.
