<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect data to be transmitted to a printer from a host device controlling the printer through the use of a method without an excessive processing load. <P>SOLUTION: In a printing system 1, a host computer 2 performs authentication with a server 4 so as to receive data from the server 4, receives the data from the server 4 without performing the authentication when the server 4 does not request the authentication, stores the data received from the server 4 in association with an authentication performing state when the data is received, determines whether the data is to be confidential or not, based on the authentication performing state when the data is received, when stored slip data is transmitted to the printer 6, and transmits the data to be confidential in an encrypted state.
