SYSTEM TO CONTROL TRANSMISSION POWER RAMP-UP BY UTILIZING SHORT CODE IN RADIO CDMA SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a control method of transmission power ramp-up during establishment of a communication channel between a subscriber unit and a base station in a radio CDMA communication system.

SOLUTION: A system and a method for controlling a transmission power during the setting of a channel in a CDMA communication system utilize transmission of a short code from the subscriber unit to the base station during increasing initial transmission power. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station having much shorter period than a conventional spreading code. Transmission power increase starts from a transmission power level that is guaranteed to be lower a required transmission power level for the detection by the base station. The subscriber unit quickly increases transmission power by repeatedly transmitting the short code until a signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it sends an indication to the subscriber unit to cease increasing the transmission power.
