POROUS ALUMINUM TITANATE, SINTERED BODY OF THE SAME, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Disclosed is a novel porous aluminum titanate wherein the aluminum titanate itself is porous. Also disclosed are a sintered body of the porous aluminum titanate and a method for producing the porous aluminum titanate. The porous aluminum titanate is characterized by being a porous particle which has a shape wherein particles of ameba-like shapes having a plurality of irregularly extending projections are combined together. The porous aluminum titanate is also characterized by having a pore volume of not less than 0.05 ml/g within the range of a pore diameter of 0.0036-10 µm in the pore distribution as measured by a mercury porosimeter.
