PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which suppresses drive voltage increase, luminance lowering, current leakage, and development and growth of local non-luminous spots during operation of the element, and has high reliability, such as high heat resistance, and high luminance. SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes organic compound layers, and at least one of the organic compound layers contains a compound having a skeleton represented by formula (I), where L<SB>0</SB>is any one of o-, p-, and m-phenylene groups having two, three, or four rings, and when the phenylene group has four rings, the phenylene group may have an aminophenyl group having an unsubstituted or substituted group somewhere therein, while each of R<SB>01</SB>to R<SB>04</SB>is represented by formula (II).
