A pin-operated shutter 21 of a socket outlet 10 is obstructed by (figures 7 to 10, not shown) or attached to the earth socket contact 14 of a socket outlet and is allowed to move linearly when a counterpart plug is mated with outlet so that an adaptor 40 over the end of the earth pin 17 of the plug splays the socket contact 14, freeing the shutter to be moved by engagement of the shutter at 27 with the live and neutral pins 15,16 of the plug. If an attempt is made to use either one of the live or neutral pins to move the shutter, it pivots but is prevented from moving linearly by pads (34, figures 5 and 6, not shown). |
