The device has a trommel (2) including a perforated cylindrical rotary drum (3) mounted around an axis inclined with respect to the horizontal. The trommel has an upstream end (5) through which household waste to be sorted, is introduced in the drum from a bag-opening device (18), and a downstream end (6) through which garbage such as plastic bottles, is removed. Ballistic bodies are extended transversally under the trommel. Each ballistic body has a transport band that defines an inclined plane on which the waste are introduced. An independent claim is also included for a household waste sorting installation comprising a bag opening device.
