<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus which attains a uniform fixing ability by making the temperature distribution on a fixing roller surface uniform by uniforming a heat generated amount distribution by preventing the occurrence of variance in electric resistance value in the flowing direction of current in a heat generating layer in the heat generating layer composed of a sheet heating element formed on a roller surface. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The heat generating layer 53 for generating heat by having current supplied is composed of the sheet heating element provided with a positive resistance temperature characteristic and formed on the surface of the fixing roller 41. In the heat generating layer 53, a set of electrodes 59 are formed in parallel to the axial direction of the fixing roller 41 so that the flowing direction of the current which flows to the heat generating layer 53 is in the direction which is approximately orthogonal to the axial direction of the fixing roller 41. Furthermore, the region with the smaller area among the two regions which are in between the set of electrodes 59 is an electrode insulation section 50 in the heat generating layer 53.
