<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-brightness LED projector optical system which uses one white LED light source, and three DMDs for blue, red, and green, thereby increasing the brightness about 2 to 3 times over the current brightness (about 100 to 300 lm), and to provide a projector having the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The projector optical system includes: a lighting optical system including a light source of one high-brightness LED, a color separating and mixing optical member which separates the light emitted by the high-brightness white LED into the primary colors, guides the light beams to the three DMDs corresponding to the primary colors, and mixes them, and a projection optical system which projects the light beams mixed by the color separating and mixing optical member on a screen. The color separating and mixing member includes an RTIR prism, and the DMD is installed obliquely at about 45 degrees with respect to a main optical axis to project an image which is inclined at about 45°.
