The device has a membrane facade (3) arranged at a distance to an upper surface of a building (2) to be protected. The membrane facade has a carrier structure (4) to which surface elements (5) are attached. The surface elements provide reference breaking points within surface areas and/or reference breaking points along a connection provided with the carrier structure, where the surface elements are perforated and designed in a foil-shape. The carrier structure is designed in a grid-shape and forms open mesh fields, which are partially overstretched or covered by the surface elements.
