PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multistage transmission smoothly operated with a small force, requiring no clutch for gear shift, producing no loss of changeover time for gear shift, eliminating the loss of driving force, and generating less shock due to gear shift. SOLUTION: The constant-mesh multistage transmission is provided with a first engagement means 25 engaging first gears n1, ... and a gear shaft 12 in such a manner that the same synchronously rotate, and a second engagement means 25 engaging second gears n2, ... having a reduction ratio smaller by one stage than that of the first gears n1, ... and the gear shaft 12 in such a manner that the same synchronously rotate. In shift-up by shifting the engagement of an engagement means 25 from the first gears n1, ... to the second gears n2, ... gear change is performed by engaging the second gears n2, ... with the gear shaft 12 by the second engagement means 25 under a condition where the first gears n1, ... are engaged with the gear shaft 12 by the first engagement means 25.
