<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instruct an operation for predetermined processing, without moving fingers after selecting a choice. <P>SOLUTION: In this touch panel device, a sensor panel has a resistive film material uniformly formed thereon, has resistive peripheral electrodes surrounding its periphery, and is connected to a signal processing unit from four apexes of each resistive peripheral electrode or from each point of a conducting cable connected to the surface of the sensor panel, the signal processing unit retaining an input voltage or an input current. Based on the values of currents or voltages flowing between the four apexes and a touch position, a coordinate position on the surface of the sensor panel is output to an external processor, and the signal processing unit determines the number of fingers touching the surface of the sensor panel according to the total values of currents or voltages flowing between the four apexes and the touch position.
