The method involves determining a parameter representing total quantity of heat energy that is provided by exhaust gas in an inlet of a particle filter (5), from starting of injection of vaporized fuel in an exhaust line (1) of a heat engine i.e. diesel engine, of a motor vehicle. The injection of the vaporized fuel is stopped when total quantity of heat energy that is provided by the exhaust gas in the inlet of the filter from the starting of the fuel injection, is higher than quantity of determined heat energy. An independent claim is also included for a device for regenerating a particle filter of an exhaust line of a motor vehicle, comprising a vaporized fuel injecting unit.
