PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system which enables quick reception of route guidance and also reception of guidance of a recommended route based on updated map data. SOLUTION: The navigation system searches for the recommended route 31 without updating map data and conducts the route guidance. After the route guidance is started, the map data are updated. When the recommended route 31 passes through mesh areas M26, M35 and M36 for which the map data are updated, a rerouting screen 40 is displayed on a display monitor 16. In the case of conducting a route re-search, the user pushes a YES button 41 of the rerouting screen 40. As the result, the navigation system re-searches for the recommended route from the current place of a vehicle, as the starting place, to the destination, using the updated map data.
