<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas heating-cooling device for the final purpose of fabricating a large power stirring engine, in which the problem of the current stirring engine that adiabatically compressed operation gas is cooled before heated, causing the reduction of the thermal efficiency is solved. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A gas heating-cooling device comprises a plurality of rod-like heating-cooling devices 20 in a displacer cylinder 11, and a displacer pistons 12 fitted with these devices to provide the displacer piston with a function of a regenerative heat exchanger so that an operation gas can be heated and cooled by coming and going between a high temperature space and a low temperature space without passing the outside of the cylinder.
