<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life optical connector which is not damaged even when used for a connection of an optical fiber for high-power transmission. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical connector for high power has ferrule holding optical fibers and a flange brought into contact with the ferrules, and is characterized in that ferrules of at least a reception-side connector are made of transparent glass and the flange is made of a material which is transparent to infrared light. It is preferred that a sensor for detecting infrared light is disposed behind the flange.
