PURPOSE: A linear generating system with a power transformer and a control method thereof are provided to improve efficiency of the control operation by controlling a speed, a direction, and a position of a rotor according to the position of the rotor of a linear generator. CONSTITUTION: A linear generating system includes a linear generator(100), a free-piston engine(120,120'), and a power transformer(130). The linear generator is comprised of a stator and a rotor. The stator is made by winding three-phase coil. The rotor is equipped in a driving shaft(110) passing through the stator. The free-piston engine is connected to both sides of the driving shaft. The power converter is connected to the linear generator. The power transformer supplies the external power to each phase of the stator and operates the linear generator. The power transformer includes a three-phase inverter, a DC capacitor, and a single converter. The three-phase inverter receives the system power. The DC capacitor maintains the power of the three-phase inverter constantly. The single converter is connected to each phase to supply the current to each phase of the stator of the linear generator based on the DC voltage.
