<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which improves operability of bonding operation for an optical fiber and an optical element and applies no stress to an optical waveguide from upper side. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical module includes a housing 11 having an opening 11a, the optical element 15 fixed on a reference plane 11b in the housing 11 and having the optical waveguide 14 formed on an upper surface of a substrate 13 having electrooptical effect, the optical fiber 16 having an end part optically coupled to an optical waveguide end face 14a of the optical waveguide 14, and a bead 17 having an insertion hole into which the optical fiber 16 is inserted and optically coupling the end part of the optical fiber 16 to the optical waveguide end face 14a. The bead 17 has a columnar main portion having an optical waveguide end face joined surface to be joined to the optical waveguide end face 14a of the optical waveguide 14, and a projection portion having an upper joined surface projecting from the main portion to be joined to an upper surface 15a of the optical element 15, and a cut portion disposed upper side the optical waveguide 14 when joined to the optical element 15.
