PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector and a detecting method constituted simply, for reducing a cost, and allowing high-speed processing. SOLUTION: This detector/detecting method dispenses with imaging by an imaging means, an image processing technique using a computer and the like, since detecting whether a ceiling C is displaced with respect to a floor F or not, based on a displacement of a photoreception position detected by a displacement detecting part 3, and the detector/detecting method is simplified thereby, and is reduced in a cost. The detector 1 detects the presence of the displacement of the ceiling C with respect to the floor F, by only detecting the displacement of the photoreception position by a displacement detecting part 3, and the image processing technique using the computer required conventionally is eliminated by this manner, to attain the high-speed processing thereby compared with conventional one.
