PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abnormal offset in an MERS quickly. SOLUTION: An AC power supply unit includes an MERS 4 connected between a fluorescent lamp 2 and an AC power supply 3 and outputting a load voltage for lighting the fluorescent lamp by regulating a power supply voltage, and a controller 13 performing drive control of the MERS, wherein the controller performs drive control of the MERS in a fluorescent lamp system 1 to output a desired load voltage by regulating a power supply voltage according to the on/off operation of an MOS at an on/off timing and charge/discharge operation of a capacitor 25 incident to the on/off operation, and the controller has a monitoring section 44 for continuously detecting the capacitor voltage during continuous on period of the MOS, and a section 45 for determining whether there is a zero-volt section in the capacitor voltage detected continuously in the same continuous on period or not based on the detection results, and determining that the offset is abnormal if there is no zero-volt section.
