PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure compatibly satisfying conflict effects between thinning and feeling of depth and feeling of solidity, in a vehicle interior lighting system equipped with two kinds of illumination modes, direct illumination and indirect illumination. SOLUTION: The vehicle interior lighting system installed in a vehicle interior ceiling is provided with: a base body; an LED lamp mounted on the base body; a light diffusing member for diffusing the light of the LED lamp, disposed on the light emitting side of the LED lamp; an optical sheet subjected to hologram processing or prism processing, disposed around a mounting part of the LED lamp in the base body; and a transparent cover for covering the LED lamp, the light diffusing member and the optical sheet. The transparent cover has a first light transmitting part for directly emitting light, which travels inside the vehicle interior in the diffused lights produced by the light diffusing member, into the vehicle interior; and a second light transmitting part for emitting light, which travels toward the optical sheet and is reflected by the optical sheet in the diffused lights, into the vehicle interior.
