PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous ion exchanger the pressure loss of which is made small and by which even an ion having a small selectivity coefficient can be concentrated quantitatively and an excellent chromatogram can be obtained even when an eluent having a comparatively low ion elution capacity is used, and to provide a method for producing the porous ion exchanger, a column for concentrating the ion and an ion chromatography unit. SOLUTION: The organic porous ion exchanger being a dried porous ion exchanger having 0.05-4 mg-equivalent/g ion exchange capacity is produced by uniformly introducing a cation exchange group and an anion exchange group into a porous polymer having such an open cell structure that a mesopore exists in a wall where a macropore and a macropore are connected to each other and by reacting a part of the introduced cation exchange group with the whole of the introduced anion exchange group or the whole of the introduced cation exchange group with a part of the introduced anion exchange group to form internal salt.
