PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a long-life electrolyte membrane is required in order to put a PEFC or DMFC to practical use. SOLUTION: The long-life electrolyte membrane is obtained by using a block copolymer comprising a hydrophilic segment containing an ion exchange group and a hydrophobic segment not containing an ion exchange group in a main chain and a side chain or having a larger ion exchange group equivalent weight than the hydrophilic segment, wherein the hydrophilic segment is a polyarylene in which a sulfonic acid group bonds to an aromatic ring through an alkylene ether bond.
