PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly convenient information processing apparatus capable of surely preventing an information recording medium from being stolen and capable of taking out the information recording medium even when a power supply of a personal computer is turned off or the personal computer cannot be started due to a failure and making it unnecessary to store a password for taking out the information recording medium. SOLUTION: An ID setting means 4a in a CPU 4 makes a personal computer user previously register ID and stores the registered ID in an ID storage means 9 in a microcomputer 12. An ID authentication means 8 fetches authentication ID 13a stored in a USB memory 13 attached to an external terminal 7, executes authentication on the basis of the ID stored in the ID storage means 9, and when the authentication is OK, a locking/unlocking control means 6 drives a locking/unlocking means 5 to unlock an HDD 2.
