The invention relates to an electrochromic device which can readily become translucent or transparent when a potential is applied. The electrochromic device comprises two electrodes, one is a counter electrode and the other electrode includes a layer of graphene or graphene oxide formed on a transparent substrate. A voltage is applied across the electrodes and an ionically conducting solution to alternate between clear and opaque states. The use of graphene gives the electrochromic device superior transparency and physical flexibility. The electrochromic device may be used to darken windows or rear-view mirrors. |
