PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device, capable of easily and inexpensively specifying a cause of failure occurred in a serial bus in a short time without using an exclusive analysis tool. SOLUTION: Field equipment 3 mounted with the communication device adapted to perform communication of binary signal through a field bus B as a serial bus comprises a storage part 15 which stores characteristic data D1 showing characteristic changes in waveform of binary signal according to the kinds of failures, which occur in the field bus B; a sampling part 13 which samples the binary signal through the field bus B; a characteristic calculation part 14a which determines characteristic data showing a characteristic change in waveform of the binary signal through the filed bus B by use of sampling data obtained by the sampling part 13; and a determination part 14b which compares the characteristic data determined by the calculation part 14a with the characteristic data D1 stored in the storage part 15 to determine the kind of the failure caused in the field bus B.
