PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of obtaining a normal read image even if a driving circuit of a lighting light source gets out of order, and a control method and program thereof. SOLUTION: LED blocks 101a and 101b are connected to driving circuits 104a and 104b through selector switches 102a and 102b, and 103a and 103b, respectively. The switches 102a and 102b, and 103a and 103b are operative to connect the LED block 101a to the driving circuit 104b which is operating normally.
