PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underwater distance measuring method and underwater distance measuring system for accurately measuring the distance between two underwater points without being affected by special conditions in underwater measurement. SOLUTION: This underwater distance measuring method comprises a process of applying tension to a PC steel wire 10 in the atmosphere, attaching a scale to the PC steel wire 10, and measuring the reference steel wire temperature, a process of arranging the PC steel wire 10 underwater so as to pass the just above part of two measurement points P1 and P2 disposed underwater, a process of applying tension to the PC steel wire 10, measuring the underwater distance L between the measurement point P1 and the measurement point P2 with the positional relation between the scale and the measurement points P1 and P2, and measuring the steel wire temperature of the PC steel wire, and a process of correcting the underwater distance L with the difference between the reference steel wire temperature and the underwater steel wire temperature.
