PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite friction adjusting material having excellent fading restriction and high temperature friction, and a stable friction coefficient to a low temperature range so as to restrain the brake noise and providing high strength, high heat conductivity and a high attenuation rate to a friction material and to provide the friction material containing the composite friction adjusting material and having excellent performance. SOLUTION: The composite friction adjusting material to be used for the friction material is made of composite material particles where an exfoliated layered clay mineral is dispersed in an organic base material resin. The friction material contains the composite friction adjusting material made of the composite material particles where the layered clay mineral is exfoliated and dispersed in the organic base material resin. It is preferable that the organic base material resin is a cashew resin and that the compounding ratio of the layered clay mineral to the cashew resin is 5 to 50 mass%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
