In an electric discharge device working a work piece by discharge, complication of a structure and an increase of the number of components are suppressed without installing a plurality of power supplies. In a switching signal waveform which is outputted from a full bride circuit consisting of four switching elements and is formed of a bipolar pulse group for controlling output timing of a voltage pulse, a duty ratio is set to be different in a positive polarity pulse group consisting of a plurality of positive polarity pulses giving positive polarity to the work piece and power polarity of negative polarity to a work electrode, and a reverse polarity pulse group formed of a plurality of reversed polarity pulses giving negative polarity to the work piece and power polarity of positive polarity to the work electrode. Thus, the pulse groups different in quality by polarities are used in different ways in accordance with the most important items in work such as work speed, plane roughness, electrode consumption or straightness, and discharge work is realized in the electric discharge device.
