PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing device and optical equipment, relatively easily achieving highly precise positioning while preventing defocusing. SOLUTION: This focusing device for regulating a focal point of an optical member has: a sensor for detecting an image formed by the optical member to output an image signal; a focus state detecting means for detecting a focus state, based on a contrast value of the image in the image signal output from the sensor; and a driving mechanism for driving one of the optical member and the sensor to move with respect to the other, when regulating the focal point. The driving mechanism has: a motor having a rotor having a magnet, and a stator having a coil imparting a rotational force to the magnet; a position sensor for detecting a position of the rotor of the motor; and a drive control means for making, in response to the contrast value, the switching between a first drive for switching an electrification state to the coil of the motor in response to an output from the position sensor, and a second drive for switching the electrification state to the coil of the motor according to a predetermined time interval.
