PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly duplicate a gap between postal objects at an inlet side of a predetermined section of a conveying passage after passing through an outlet side. SOLUTION: The paper sheet conveying apparatus is provided with an inlet side measurement sensor 27 for measuring the passing time based on the fact that the postal object conveyed by a conveying means 21 is passed through the inlet side of the predetermined section 8a of the conveying passage 8; an outlet side measurement sensor 28 for measuring the passing time based on the fact that the postal object is passed through the exist side of the predetermined section 8a; a calculation means for calculating the passing time of the postal object required for passing the predetermined section 8a based on the passing time measured by the respective measurement sensors 27, 28 at the inlet side and the outlet side; and a gap correction means 30 for correcting the gap between the postal objects by comparing the passing time calculated by the calculation means with the time required for passing through the predetermined section 8a previously set and varying a conveying speed of the postal object passing through the outlet side based on the comparison value.
