PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a merocyanine dye with a novel structure, and to provide a photoelectric conversion element which has a photoelectric conversion part including a pair of electrodes and a photoelectric conversion layer set up in between the pair of electrodes and of which the photoelectric conversion layer contains the merocyanine dye. SOLUTION: There is provided a merocyanine dye represented by general formula (1) (wherein A<SB>1</SB>is a divalent atom group; n is an integer of 1-3; A<SB>2</SB>and A<SB>3</SB>are each independently an aromatic hydrocarbon ring or a 3-18C heterocycle; and R<SB>11</SB>and R<SB>12</SB>are each independently a hydrogen atom, a 1-18C alkyl or 6-18C aryl group, or a 3-18C heterocycle). There are also provided a dye thin film containing the dye, and a photoelectric conversion element which has a photoelectric conversion part including a pair of electrodes and a photoelectric conversion layer set up in between the pair of electrodes and of which the photoelectric conversion layer contains the merocyanine dye.
