<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photovoltaic element with a high photoelectric conversion efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: Electron-releasing organic materials for a photovoltaic element including benzothiazole compound represented by the general formula (1) are provided. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>8</SP>may be the same or different and selected from hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, a heteroaryl group, and halogen. The W, X, Y, and Z may be the same or different, and selected from single bond, an arylene group, and a heteroarylene group. The m is 0 or 1.
