A multi-airconditioner and a control method thereof are provided to prevent damage to the compressor due to the lack of lubricating oil by keeping the lubricating oil in the compressor at the proper level. A multi-airconditioner comprises a compressor(10), a sensor unit(30), and a control unit. The compressor includes a magnetic material(12) indicating the oil level inside. The sensor unit senses the location of the magnetic material and outputs the location signal. The control unit performs oil recovery operation based on the location signal if the oil level is equal to or less than the desired value.
