A portable terminal and a control method thereof are provided to increase convenience by switching a folder object screen and a file object screen with a simple manipulation during contents searching. A portable terminal is switched to a contents search mode for searching contents. A folder object screen for at least one folder including the contents is displayed(S110). The folder object screen is switched to a file object screen by determining input of a set screen object switching key(S150).
