PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce aluminium hydride by easily hydrogenating aluminium even if the pressure is at a general filling pressure of a hydrogen storage container. SOLUTION: A powder storage container 14 stored with Al (preferably aluminium powder PW) is inserted into an electric furnace 12. The powder storage container 14 is heated by the electric furnace 12 to a given temperature between 450-550°C, thereafter the pressure inside the container 14 is set not higher than 1 mmHg and the container 14 is held for 10-60 minutes. Further into the powder storage container 14 hydrogen is introduced and the pressure is set to 4-70 MPa and the container is held for 10-60 minutes. By repeating above operations 50-150 times, AlHx (0<x≤3) wherein the aluminium powder PW is hydrogenated is produced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
