PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building unit which avoids limitation of a dimension thereof constituting a prefabricated building by a rear body dimension of a transporting vehicle, and to provide a method of transporting and assembling the building unit. SOLUTION: The garage building unit 1 is constructed like a frame and formed of a plurality of vertically extending supports 11, and a plurality of ceiling beams 13 connecting between upper edges of the supports 11. Out of the ceiling beams 13 and floor beams, the beams extending in the same direction are made lengthwise adjustable. Thus during transportation, i.e. when the building unit 1 manufactured in the factory is loaded on the rear body of the transporting vehicle, the length of each beam is adjusted to a contracted dimension, and during assembling work, i.e. when the building unit is assembled in the other building unit in the construction field after the transportation work, the length of each beam is adjusted to an extended dimension.
