The basket (1) has a spare wheel (8) comprising a tire mounted on a rim integrated with a cable (4) that is activated by a winch (3) i.e. hoisting unit, fixed to a floor pan (5). The winch is controlled by a control unit for unrolling the cable to release the spare wheel in bottom position and for rolling the cable to fasten the spare wheel in top position. The spare wheel is positioned in a curve envelope storage bag (2) with a main opening that is closed at an attachment point of the cable on the rim. The bag is made of sealed material and run proof metallic hairnet. An independent claim is also included for a method for handling a basket for accommodating a spare wheel.
