A transducer 116 senses repetitive pulses 120 on a magnetostrictive element 102 and provides transducer output bursts 122. A transducer circuit 126 detects the transducer output bursts. An energy storage device 130 couples to a power input 128 of the transducer circuit. A switching power supply 132 couples to the energy storage device and has repetitive suppressed states during which switching in the switching power supply is suppressed. A sequence circuit 140 provides synchronization of the repetitive suppressed states of the switching power supply with the transducer output bursts.
