PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display manufactured easily, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display 89 includes a liquid crystal display panel with a liquid crystal 21 sandwiched by an active matrix substrate 11 having a light guide function and an opposed counter substrate 12, and an LED 41 for supplying light reaching the liquid crystal display panel, and the active matrix substrate 11 includes an opening hole HL for embedding the LED 41.
