SEALING DEVICE

A sealing device (1) for sealing the periphery of that portion of a shaft which is prone to be exposed to muddy water from the outside. The sealing device (1) is adapted to prevent as much as possible the entry of muddy water into a sliding section (S1) of an oil-facing seal lip (13). To achieve this, the sealing device (1) has an oil seal (10) mounted to the inner peripheral surface of an opening end (2a) of a non-rotatable housing (2) and also has a slinger (20) mounted to a rotating body (5), which is inserted through the housing (2), so as to be located axially outward of the oil seal (10). The oil seal (10) is integrally formed of a rubber-like elastic material with a metal reinforcement ring (11) and has the oil-facing seal lip (13) making slidable close contact with the outer peripheral surface of the rotating body (5). The reinforcement ring (11) has an outer diameter tube section (11b) exposed from the rubber-like elastic material and extending in the direction away from the opening end (2a) of the housing (2) so as to surround the outer periphery of the slinger (20). An external seal lip (24) extending in the direction away from the opening end (2a) of the housing (2) is mounted to a rim (23) of the slinger (20) so as to make slidable close contact with the inner peripheral surface of the outer diameter tube section (11b).
