Method for registration in a multi-colour printing press

The method involves printing at least one image page with register markers with a different length from the print whose register is to be set and deriving correction values by detecting the data of the register markers for the image page(s), relating them to positions of image and substrate-bearing elements and controlling the image generating devices according to the correction values. The method involves generating image starting points and areas for part color images based on the print and the evaluation of register markers. At least one image page (8,8') with register markers (9,9'..) is printed with a different length from the print (14) whose register is to be set and correction values are determined by detecting the data of the register markers for the image page(s), relating them to positions of image and substrate-bearing elements (2,2') and controlling the image generating devices according to the correction values. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for setting the register in a multi-color printing machine and a multi-color printing machine.
