<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal device with good appearance reduced in leak of light at the outer circumferential part of a phase difference film, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 100 comprises a pair of substrates composed of an element substrate 10 and a counter substrate 20, a liquid crystal layer 50 held between the element substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20, a plurality of pixels having a reflective display area R and a transmissive display area T in one sub-pixel SG, and a retardation film 26 provided in the reflective display area R.
