PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of sealing for maintaining the inside vacuum in an FED (field emission display). SOLUTION: An exhaust chamber is formed by installing a rear cover 6 of cup-shape on which an exhaust pipe 8 is welded by covering a hole 10 of a cathode substrate 1. The rear cover 6 is made of glass and formed in cup shape. The rear cover 6 is sealed to the cathode substrate 1 by frit glass 32. An exhaust pipe 8 is welded to the bottom part of flat-shape of the rear cover 6. Since sealing by glass frit is made only between the rear cover 6 and the cathode substrate 1, sealing reliability is high. Further, since sealing of the thin exhaust pipe 8 and the rear cover 6 is carried out by welding of glass, sealing reliability can be improved on this point also. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
