PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid injection device which suppresses the destruction of a meniscus in a nozzle when reversing a suction pump after the completion of cleaning of the fluid injection head. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer includes: a waste fluid tank 30 for collecting ink discharged from a recording head 19 via a cap 24 abutting on the recording head 19 in a state where ink is sucked; discharge flow paths 26a-29a connecting the cap 24 to the waste fluid tank 30; a suction pump 25 which sucks ink through the cap 24 and the discharge flow paths 26a-29a and sends out ink to a waste fluid tank 30 side when a drive motor 25A rotates in the forward direction in a state where the cap 24 abuts on the recording head 19; and a selector valve apparatus 37 and a control unit 80 for suppressing movement into small ink chambers 24a-24d of a positive pressure generated in the suction pump 25 based on the forward direction rotation of the drive motor 25A when the rotation of the drive motor 25A is switched from the forward direction to the reverse direction.
