PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately and easily perform fault diagnosis in a digital camera with a fault diagnosis function. SOLUTION: A density value W1 for diagnosing a density chart 210 which is indicated by an image signal Gd1 obtained by imaging the density chart 210, A/D converting the picked-up image and outputting the A/D converted signal through a preceding process monitoring output part 232 is compared with a previously calculated reference density value W2 for the density chart 210 to diagnose a fault in the preceding process PF. A reference signal Sk is inputted to a post processing part 102 for executing succeeding process of photography through a reference signal leading part 234. A measurement signal Sm outputted from the post processing part 102 through a post process monitoring output part 236 according to the input of the reference signal Sk is compared with a reference signal Sh which is previously found out and outputted from the post processing part 102 according to the input of the reference signal Sk to the post processing part 102 which is correctly driven to diagnose a fault in the succeeding process PB.
